Olivet College to host financial literacy workshop

OLIVET, Mich. Donald Ferguson, director of minority dealer development, relationship marketing and diversity at GMAC Financial Services, will present a financial literacy workshop at Olivet College Wednesday, April 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. The workshop, which is sponsored by the Office of Student Life, is free and open to the public.

During the session, Ferguson will cover the importance of establishing a budget and the ins and outs of a personal credit score. Topics he will discuss include, but are not limited to: what a budget does; developing a realistic spending plan; how to build and maintain credit; how to obtain and interpret a credit score; and how credit worthiness affects people and their ability to get credit.

Ferguson, who has been with GMAC for more than 29 years, oversees the companys development and implementations of SmartEdge, GMACs financial literacy program, and coordinates relationship marketing activities with a number of national and local organizations. He is also the liaison for diversity initiatives with General Motors.

Ferguson earned a bachelors degree in mathematics from Virginia State University and completed the executive education program at Duke Universitys Fuqua School of Business. He is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), 100 Black Men of America, the American Financial Services Association (AFSA), and the National Society of Pershing Rifles. He is also on the Money Smart Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (Detroit branch).
