Olivet College students perform in national small college intercollegiate band
Apr 13, 2007
OLIVET, Mich. Two Olivet College instrumental music students recently performed in the Small College Intercollegiate Band at the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) conference at the University of Michigans Hill Auditorium. The band was comprised of students from small colleges across the United States, including Olivet senior Bryan Borders, who plays the trombone, and junior Melanie Engels, who plays the alto saxophone. Both are from Battle Creek. Although the band consisted of 80 members, more than 275 students sent in applications as well as a recommendation letter. Borders and Engels were recommended by Jeananne Nichols, D.M.A., Olivets director of instrumental studies and assistant professor of music. Frank Ticheli, Ph.D., professor of composition at the University of Southern Californias Thornton School of Music, served as guest conductor.
