Commencement scheduled for May 19

Olivet College will recognize approximately 215 seniors as part of graduation ceremonies Saturday, May 19. Baccalaureate begins at 11 a.m. in the Olivet Congregational Church, followed by commencement at 1:30 p.m., at the college’s Cutler Athletic Complex. In the event of inclement weather, commencement will be held at the Upton Center.

The commencement speaker is Maria Davis, Ph.D., chair of Olivet College’s Natural and Physical Sciences Department and professor of biology. Davis, who resides in Charlotte, was recently honored with the Livingston Professorship Award, which is the highest teaching honor awarded to a full-time, tenured faculty member at Olivet.

Ashurina Chamoun of Warren is the senior class speaker. Speaking at baccalaureate are: seniors Justin Barnes, from Portage; Erin Fredericks, from Grand Ledge; Eunice Oladele, from Nigeria; Justin Smelter, from Gross Ile; Isaiah Wiltshire, from Mississauga, Ontario; and Levi Yockey, from Phoenix, Ariz. Phil Reed, assistant professor of criminal justice, was chosen by the senior class to speak.
