Olivet College to present “Lysistrata”

Olivet College will present the play Lysistrata April 10, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Oaks Theatre in downtown Olivet. The production is free and open to the public. Lysistrata, written by Aristophanes and translated by Sarah Ruden, is a biting satire of democracy, sexual politics and just how far people will go to stop a war. Ruden is an award-winning journalist and poet, whose translations of ancient classics are widely praised for their vibrancy. Cast members include: Jeremy Adams, a junior from Novi; Juan Aguirre, a senior from Mexico; Annie Bahling, a senior from Lachine; Jean Paul Cortes, a junior from Mexico; Marites Eldred, a senior from Battle Creek; Mark Gouba, a freshman from Novi; Kayla Green, a freshman from Mason; Emma Henson, a junior from Shelby Township; Jenna Hurd, a senior from Marshall; Sarah Klepinger, a junior from Onondaga; Olivia LaFortune, a freshman from Westland; Joe McAllister, a sophomore from Sault Ste. Marie; Mariah Mickelwait, a senior from Middleville; Nick Pavloski, a sophomore from Rudyard; Kelli Roe, a senior from Galesburg; Koji Takahashi, a senior from Toronto; Rachel Tunison, a senior from Erie; Andrew Williams, a senior from Fenton; Art Williams, Ph.D., associate professor of interdisciplinary studies; and Dawn Yost, a senior from Charlotte. The play is directed by Kirk Hendershott-Kraetzer, Ph.D., Olivets Humanities Department chair and associate professor of humanities. Assistant director is Joanne Williams, assistant professor of journalism/mass communication; technical director is Anabel Montalvo, a senior from Detroit; and costumer is Anna EldenBrady, a teacher certification student from Okemos.
