Olivet College expands grant to include 27 additional high schools
May 21, 2008

Due to an overwhelming response from prospective students, the Olivet College Board of Trustees announced Friday that the college is expanding its Community Connection Grant (CCG) to include 27 additional area high schools.

Launched during the 2008 spring semester, the CCG is currently offered to any new freshman, transfer or non-traditional commuter student who graduated from or currently resides in Bellevue, Charlotte, Marshall or Olivet. At the start of the 2009 spring semester, the grant, which totals $9,290 a year for each student before state and federal aid, will be available to the following additional high schools: Albion; Battle Creek Central; Battle Creek Lakeview; Climax-Scotts; Dewitt; East Lansing; Eaton Rapids; Grand Ledge; Harper Creek; Holt; Homer; Jackson; Jackson Lumen Christi; Lakewood; Lansing Catholic Central; Lansing Eastern; Lansing Everett; Lansing Sexton; Lansing Waverly; Maple Valley; Mason; Parma Western; Pennfield; Potterville; Springport; Tekonsha; and Union City.

Recipients of the CCG will pay $1,734 to $9,944 a year for tuition at Olivet College, depending on how much federal and state aid they receive.

College administrators created this grant to provide affordable educational opportunities for students and continue the colleges vision of Education for Individual and Social Responsibility.

Olivet continues to be a leader among private schools in Michigan in making private education affordable, said Larry Vallar, vice president for enrollment management. The college recognizes the challenges of Michigans economy, which requires us to be more responsible in keeping tuition within reach for Michigan families.
