Olivet College to host jazz band concert March 3

The Olivet College Jazz Band will present a concert Tuesday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Oaks Theatre in downtown Olivet. The concert is free and open to the public. Under the direction of Jonathan Gewirtz, adjunct instructor of music, the band will perform a variety of big band music ranging from vocal jazz to standard swing and classic Duke Ellington to James Brown-style funk. The concert will feature Olivet music majors and non-majors, many of whom will perform improvised solos. Band members include: Nick Adsit, a freshman from Muskegon, trumpet; Jesse Barber, a junior from Vandalia, trumpet; Alaina Beam, a senior from Charlotte, piano and vocals; LaRoy Bell, a freshman from Albion, tenor saxophone; Christine Chaney, a freshman from Marshall, tenor saxophone; Zac Coddaire, a freshman from Lake Odessa, trumpet; Evan Cusumano, a freshman from Richmond, baritone saxophone; Marcus Darden, assistant professor of computer science, tenor saxophone; Justin Gargus, a senior from Bangor, bass; Dustin Mateling, a junior from Bellaire, drums; LuAnn Pickford, a freshman from Sherwood, alto saxophone; Dakota Rhodes, of Olivet, trombone; Fran Hinchman-Smith, a freshman from Grand Junction, trumpet; Seth Story, a senior from Ithaca, trombone; and Blake Walters, a senior from Olivet, alto saxophone.
