Mar 18, 2009

Joanne Williams, assistant professor of journalism/mass communication and adviser to the Echo student newspaper at Olivet College, was named president of the Michigan Collegiate Press Association (MCPA) during their annual winter meeting in February.

The MCPA is an association of the academic advisers to Michigans college and university newspapers. The organization represents three divisions of collegiate newspapers, including: Division I, papers publishing more than once a week; Division II, papers publishing once a week; and Division III, two-year college papers and papers publishing less than once a week.

Other advisers elected as officers to the MCPA include: Omar Sofradzija, Michigan State University State News, vice president/president-elect; Lawrence Beery, Grand Valley State University Lanthorn, secretary-treasurer; and Brian Abbott, Western Michigan University Western Herald, immediate past president.

The MCPA exists to represent collegiate newspapers at the state level through conferences, conventions, contests, information and legal counsel. For more information, visit www.michiganpress.org.
