Price named director of athletics at Olivet College

Dave Price 68, has been named the schools director of athletics according to an announcement by President Don Tuski. He will begin his duties on July 1.

Price has been the director of athletics at Caledonia High School since July 2001. From 1989 to 2001, he served as director of physical education and athletics at Rockford High School.

“We are extremely pleased to have another Olivetian return to campus to serve in a leadership position,” said Tuski. “Daves unique combination of experience and love for the college will serve Olivet well for many years to come. I am confident that under his leadership, our student-athletes will continue to excel on and off the field and our athletic programs will reach new heights.”

In his new position, Price will serve as the chief administrator of Olivets mens and womens intercollegiate athletic programs. His responsibilities include program planning; fiscal and human resource management; compliance enforcement; fund raising; and maintaining effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Price will report to Tom Shaw, vice president for enrollment management.

“Dave is a proven leader,” said Shaw, who conducted the national search which drew more than 75 applicants. “Every school Dave has worked at has become better because of his knowledge and expertise. We are looking forward to having Dave work with all of our coaches and student-athletes. Having a successful co-curricular program like athletics to complement the curricular activities on campus is vital for any healthy institution.”

Prices background also includes serving as director of athletics at Concord High School in Elkhart, Ind., as well as coaching and teaching positions at Lakeshore High School and Burr Oak High School.

Price was named the 2000 Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Regional Athletic Director of the Year. In 1998, he received the Michigan High School Athletic Association Bush Award, which is presented in recognition of outstanding services to the state, the profession and the community in interscholastic athletics. He was also named the West Michigan Athletic Director of the Year in 1996 by the West Michigan Officials Association.

A native of Riverview, Price earned a bachelors degree in history from Olivet. He was a three-time letterwinner in football, serving as the Comets team captain his junior and senior seasons. Price earned a masters degree from Western Michigan University in 1975. His family includes wife, Randi, a 1970 Olivet graduate, and three adult children, Scott, a 1996 Olivet graduate, Kim and Chris.

Alcohol policy forum asks for input

Interested in revising the colleges alcohol policy? Then come to the Open Forum on Wednesday, April 30 at 2 p.m. in the Oaks Dining Room. Refreshments will be served.

Attendees will have an opportunity to voice opinions, and to review other schools policies that may be considered for adoption. This is an important issue on campus, and Olivet policies should promote responsible and safe consumption of alcohol.
