Olivet College is now offering learning disability teacher certification as part of its special education program.

The certificate, which applies to all kindergarten through 12th grade levels, may be earned as an undergraduate major or as an endorsement to an existing teaching certificate. Though students may begin taking courses for the endorsement immediately, specific learning disability courses will be offered starting January 2010.

Implemented in 2007, Olivet Colleges special education program was created in order to meet the demands of local school districts that indicated the need for teachers of special needs students. The program provides students with a foundation in the knowledge, skills and application requisite for all special education teachers, as well as those specific to the areas of learning disability and emotional impairment.
