Oct 02, 2009
Olivet College is celebrating the construction of the new M. Gorton Riethmiller Art Building with a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. on Main Street, next to the colleges Burrage Library. The event is part of Olivets Homecoming festivities. Charles 46, Ph.D., and the Rev. Dr. Peggy (Riethmiller) Blackman, who contributed a lead gift toward the $3.7 million facility, will be on hand to celebrate. M. Gorton Riethmiller, a 1928 Olivet graduate, served as president of the college from 1957 to 1970. Other major donors for the project include the Kresge Foundation and Steve and Melinda Roznowski, who are both 1982 graduates of Olivet. The 17,000-square-foot Georgian revival-style building will include an art gallery, fine art vault and art classrooms. The facility will be used primarily by the colleges Visual Arts Department, but also by other faculty, students, alumni, friends and the community.
