Olivet College receives 4S grant
Nov 02, 2000

The Peer Teaching Program at Olivet College is the recent beneficiary of a $147,210 award presented by the Michigan Department of Career Developments King-Chavez-Parks grant program.

The Select Student Support Services (4S) grant enables the liberal arts college to continue providing its unique mentoring program which matches incoming freshmen and transfer students with their upper class peers. The older, more experienced peer teachers assist their younger counterparts as tutors, in class assistants and guides to campus activities.

Our peer teacher program has been crucial in improving student retention at Olivet College, says Dr. Donald Tuski, vice president and dean for academic affairs. During the duration of this program, retention of our students has steadily increased to our current level of 71 percent. The support of our 4S grants is helping provide a continually improving atmosphere for quality education at Olivet College.
