Olivet College radio station to launch new "Football Friday" high school game coverage
Aug 26, 2010
Olivet Colleges radio station, 89.1 WOCR, will be producing live coverage of high school football games this fall. The new programming, Football Friday, will include coverage of Friday night games featuring Olivet, Bellevue, Charlotte, and Marshall high schools. WOCRs sports team, senior Jeff Matthews and sophomore Matt Weaver, will anchor the live broadcasts, which begin Friday, Aug. 27 as Charlotte High School hosts Saint Johns High School.
Broadcasts of Football Friday will begin 15 minutes prior to game time each week through Oct. 22. WOCR is an FCC-licensed noncommercial station broadcasting at 89.1 FM and streaming live on the Internet at www.wocrfm.com.
WOCR moves to its new frequency of 89.1 this fall, has purchased new transmitting equipment, and will increase its power to 500 watts, according to Journalism and Mass Communication Program Director Gary Smith, who also serves as faculty advisor to WOCR. Smith says coverage of high school football games will expand WOCRs service to the community and give Olivet College students more opportunities to develop their broadcasting skills.
WOCR will also continue its tradition of providing live coverage of all Olivet College varsity football games.
