Sep 21, 2010
Olivet College will dedicate its new Riethmiller Blackman Art Building during a ceremony Saturday, Oct. 9 at 9:30 a.m. on Main St., next to the colleges Burrage Library. The event takes place as part of Olivets 2010 Homecoming, which is themed, Celebrate the Arts. Charles Blackman, Ph.D., a 1946 Olivet graduate, and the late Rev. Dr. Peggy Riethmiller Blackman contributed a lead gift toward the $3 million facility. Other major donors include the Kresge Foundation, and Steve and Melinda Roznowski, who are both 1982 Olivet graduates. The 17,000-square-foot Georgian revival-style building opened for classes at the beginning of the fall semester. The facility includes an art gallery, fine art vault and art classrooms. It is used primarily by the colleges Visual Arts Department, but is also open to non-art majors, faculty, alumni and the community.
