Olivet College to host Congregational Symposium

Olivet College, the Congregational Library and the Center for Congregational Leadership will host the seventh Congregational Symposium Oct. 28-30 on the Olivet College campus. The symposium, which explores the history, ideas and practices of Congregationalism and churches of Congregational heritage, is open to the public. The theme of the symposium is Congregationalism: Leading from the Wilderness. Challenges and opportunities in the Postmodern World. Dr. Terence Fretheim of Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. will open the symposium with a keynote address. He will be followed, over the course of the symposium, by nine other speakers representing the Congregational traditions of the United Church of Christ, the Conservative Congregational Christian Churches, the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches and the British Congregational Federation. Those attending the symposium will have the opportunity to interact with the presenters and other attendees in response to presentations. In addition to the speakers, the Olivet Chamber Chorus will present a concert on Friday, followed by a reception hosted by acting college president Bill Kurtz. The public is invited to attend Dr. Fretheims lecture at no charge, but must register for attendance. Registration for the symposium begins Thursday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. at the Olivet Congregational Church, followed by a dinner and worship service. The cost of registration is $105 before Tuesday, Oct. 19 and includes meals. Daily registrations are available. For more information, call Rev.
