Olivet College choral ensembles to present holiday concert

The Olivet College choral ensembles will present their annual holiday concert, “Rejoice!” Sunday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. at the Olivet Congregational Church. The event is free and open to the public. Under the direction of Timothy Flynn, Ph.D., Performing Arts Department chair, Music Program director and assistant professor of music, the students will perform excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah” with a professional string ensemble and harpsichord. In addition, the choral groups will present holiday favorites from Benjamin Britten (“Ceremony of Carols”) and John Rutter, as well as sacred and secular works, folk music, spirituals and settings from the “Song of Songs.” Soloists include: Mark Gouba and Timothy LeVasseur, tenors; Amanda Roy, alto; John Gouba and Michael Northrup, basses; and Kellie Carden, soprano. Ramona Kime, Ph.D., associate professor of music, will accompany the Men’s Ensemble, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Singers and College Choir.
