Olivet College to host author and media critic
Mar 14, 2011

Olivet College’s Betsy Dole Women’s Resource Center and journalism/mass communication program will co-host author and media critic Jenn Pozner Wednesday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. The presentation, which addresses the effects of reality TV on its viewers and society, is free and open to the public.

Pozner is founder of the non-profit organization Women in Media and News, and recently published a book titled “Reality Bites Back: The Troubling Truth About Guilty Pleasure TV.” With humor, razor-sharp analysis and provocative clips from shows like “The Bachelor,” “America’s Next Top Model” and “Flavor of Love,” Pozner exposes the editing tricks and ideological agendas used by producers and advertisers. She pushes back against reality TV’s regressive stereotypes about women, men, love, beauty, and race and class in America, and reveals how unrealistic “unscripted programming” really is.
