Noyes named director of Betsy Dole Women's Resource Center at Olivet College

Cynthia “Cea” Noyes, J.D., has been named director of the Betsy Dole Women’s Resource Center at Olivet College, according to an announcement from Maria Davis, Ph.D., provost and dean. She began her responsibilities July 1.

In addition to her new role, Noyes, a resident of Olivet, serves as chair of the Social Science Department and associate professor of sociology/anthropology at Olivet College. She is also director of the women and gender studies program.

“Professor Noyes has been a long-time supporter and promoter of gender studies on campus and has served for many years on the Betsy Dole Women’s Resource Center Advisory Board,” Davis said. “We are excited about the new direction and academic focus that her leadership of the center will bring, and are pleased that she is taking on this new role in support of student learning.”

Noyes joined the Olivet College faculty part-time in 1995 and became a full-time member in 2001. Her areas of interest include gender studies with an emphasis on women and religion, ritual and folklore. She served as president of the Faculty Senate from 2002 until 2010.

Noyes holds a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and archaeology from the University of Illinois, and completed additional graduate work in cultural anthropology and geology. She earned her Juris Doctor at University of New Hampshire School of Law and worked as a trial attorney in New Hampshire, focusing on family and civil law. While in New Hampshire, she also served as the chair of a state legislative study committee on child support guidelines and co-chaired the family law section of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
