PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
Minutes from the April 21, 2006 Meeting

I.          ANNOUNCEMENTS:
A.   The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m. by
Therese McNeil Scarpace, Committee Chair.  Ms. Scarpace welcomed the parents to the PAC meeting.  Members present received a copy of the minutes, agenda and copy of the Echo. 

II.          OLD BUSINESS:
A.   The minutes from March 18, 2006 were reviewed and approved.  Ms. Louttit will forward all minutes to Dr. McWright, Ms.
McNeil Scarpace and Ms. Pedelty. Once approved, minutes will be forwarded to the Committee Chairs.  Ms. Louttit will then forward minutes to Mr. Bruce Snyder for edit prior to posting online.  Minutes will be available on the Olivet College Web site, PAC link. Hard copies available upon request.

B.        Fundraising Sub-Committee / Gary Wear (Committee Chair):  Mr. Wear provided asummary report of his meeting with Donald L. Tuski, Ph.D., President and Mark Veich, Director of Development, held on March 28, 2006.  Mr. Wear reviewed the Parent Advisory Council Fundraising initiatives and future goals.  Committee members present received a copy of Mr. Wear’s summary. 

1.)     Meijer Community Rewards program offers some exciting potential to raise funds for the college.  Mr. Wear will continue to pursue the possibility of Olivet College participating in the Meijer Community Rewards program.

2.)     Orientation will provide an opportunity for the PAC to promote fund raising activities, sell Buy-A-Brick, encourage Grant-A-Wish donations, and enroll parents and students in the Meijer Community Rewards program.

3.)     “Comet Spirit” was discussed thru the use of The Campus Link publication and the Care Package Program.  The Campus Link will be available by e-mail or by print.  Subscriptions will be sold starting June 21, 2006, at a cost of $10 per year.  The Grant-A-Wish Board will offer sponsorship for printing and postage of the Campus Link.

4.)     Signature pieces, such as Automobiles, ATV’s and large-screen televisions were considered as major raffle items.

5.)     Leadership Dinner Fundraising- Mr. Wear has agreed to assist the Director of Olivet Special Events with raffles and auctions, during this event as well as others.

6.)     Grant-A-Wish will be promoted by the PAC during the Leadership Dinner, football games as well as New Student Orientation.

7.)     Mr. Wear shared some thoughts concerning Telephone Solicitation.

C.        Advisory Sub-Committee / Katie Louttit (Committee Chair):

1.)     Ms. Louttit will email PAC members asking them to volunteer for a sub-committee.  Information will then be forwarded to Dr. McWright and Ms. Pedelty.  College Representatives and PAC Sub-Committees will use this information, as needed.  This information will also be available to Jane Rhodes, Director of Career Services, for internships and guest speaker during seminars.

2.)     The Advisory Sub-Committee will assist the College, upon their request with the Parents Handbook and Campus Link.

             D.    Ambassador Sub-Committee / Debra Desrochers (Committee Chair):

1.)     Ms. Desrochers and Ms. McNeil Scarpace will represent the PAC at the Leadership Dinner and present the Grant-A-Wish Board.  All funds generated form the Grant-A-Wish board will be deposited into the college’s general fund.

2.)     The Care Package Program will be handled by the Ambassador Sub-Committee.  Order forms will be mailed directly from the company.  Payments will be collected by the PAC and deposited into the restricted fund account.  Boxes will be delivered to Olivet College.  The PAC will inventory boxes and deliver to Resident Hall Directors.

3.)     PAC will offer support during New Student Orientation.  PAC members present received a copy of the Olivet College 2006 Orientation schedule of events.  PAC members will set up an information table starting at 10:30 a.m., outside the Kirk Center, and during dinner at 5:00 p.m. in the square. PAC will offer input during the parent’s panel from 2:00-5:00 p.m.  PAC members will wear their red shirts.  Dates of orientation: June 23, July 14,  July 28, August 4, 2006.

4.)     PAC will show support on the following dates, during sporting events; September 16, September 23, October 7, October 28, and November 4, 2006.

IlI.         NEW BUSINESS

A.      Opening Treasuring Report:  Dr. Linda McWright announced the PAC starting Budget

of $1,000 has been approved by Dr. Tuski.  The Treasury Chair will be offered/assigned in August 2006.

B.      PAC Meeting Schedule: Meeting information will be e-mailed to all members.

2.)      September 16, 2006 General Meeting

3.)      October 7, 2006 General Meeting

4.)      December 2, 2006 Committee Chair Meeting

IV.          OTHER:

             A.  The Food Advisory Committee met on April 12, 2006.  The PAC received a copy of the committee minutes, for general information.

             B.   The next Parent Advisory Council / Committee Chair Meeting will be held on July 28, 2006.  Location and time to be announced.
