Parent Advisory Council Information
The Parent Advisory Council is designed to promote meaningful and active parent involvement in the college. The parents will voluntarily work side by side with the college to help make the experiences of our students rewarding. The goals of the Parent Advisory Council are below:

Purpose of the Parent Advisory Council

  • To involve parents and guardians in the Olivet College community and serve as resources to the college and its students.
  • To assist parents and guardians with support and tools as they adjust to their child's college transition.
  • To build stronger communication between parents and guardians and the college.
  • To identify and address college related needs and concerns involving their sons and/or daughters.
  • To inform parents and guardians of the college's programs and events and encourage participation.
  • To serve as ambassadors for the college and support Olivet in strategic and development initiatives in your local areas.

Membership
All parents of Olivet students automatically become members of the Parent Advisory Council.  We encourage you to get involved by volunteering your time!

Participation
We urge you to take an active role in your student's Olivet experience by encouraging and sharing participation in activities such as athletic, cultural and social events, guest speakers and more. Students, parents and families are important to Olivet College! Participating in your child's college experience will help build learning and social foundations that will benefit them for life!

Fundraising
At this time parents are assisting with the Buy a Brick Campaign. Parents are calling other parents explaining the program and what the funds are being raised for. Other fundraising programs are being explored by parents working on this committee.

Advising
Parents interested in this committee give input to college faculty and staff on various  issues based on a parent's perspective. Currently the committee is giving input on the student/parent handbook. This committee is also exploring how to tap the resources of Olivet College parents for student internships, job shadowing, and seminar presentations.

Ambassadorship
This committee is asked to represent Olivet College in their own community. The college can ask committee members to be involved in a function in their community or at Olivet College events as a representative of the Parent Advisory Council.

For more information, please don't hesitate to contact Linda Logan, Ph.D., vice president and dean of student life, at (269) 749-6669, or Arlene Randall, student life administrative assistant, at (269) 749-7607.

Letter from the President
Thank you for joining the Olivet College community. We are very excited to have your son or daughter as a member of our campus. There are many exciting things to get involved with as a parent. We certainly welcome you on campus anytime and we encourage you to get involved with our Parent Advisory Council. We not only want to make Olivet a great experience for your son or daughter, but for you as well.

Olivet College is very unique in higher education. We are one of the few colleges or universities to have a campus-wide compact, which is a guide to responsible behavior. Also, our vision stresses responsibility, both individually and collectively. At Olivet, we believe in students taking responsibility for themselves and others in an increasingly complex and diverse world.

The Olivet Plan challenges students to learn from their full range of experiences, inside and outside the classroom. Our faculty is dedicated to their teaching and put students first! Our staff is just as dedicated to serving your sons and daughters while also helping them to learn new skills. Our employees are here because they truly enjoy the learning process and want ALL students to succeed.

Olivet College is excited to share with you some recent campus improvements. The cafeteria in the Kirk Center recently underwent a $1.1 million renovation. This is the first major renovation of this building since it was built in the early 1960s. The Milford E. Reeder '41 Cyber Cafe' is now open in the lower level of Burrage Library. We also upgraded our campus-wide wireless network.

It is great to have you as a part of the Olivet family and I look forward to getting to know many of you. We pay attention to each and every student on campus and we plan to do the same with each one of you. We believe in opportunity, diversity and responsibility.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank You,

Don Tuski '85, Ph.D.
President
