SERVICES & PROCEDURES
LOCATION
The library is located on the corner of Main and College streets. Once inside the library you may refer to a library floor plan for specific locations or ask a staff member for assistance. We use the Library of Congress system to organize library materials Call Number Guide. We look forward to assisting you!
COLLECTION
The library contains approximately 90,000 books and subscribes to over 180 print and online Periodicals. The library also provides access to a variety of online databases such as First Search, Project MUSE, andInfoTrac. Access to many library resources are available at our web site and on campus.
REFERENCE AND RESEARCH SERVICES
Come to the library and consult with a librarian when you need to do research for assignments, term papers, or for personal interest. We will work with you and show you how to use our online catalog, Oli-Cat to find books, online databases such as Project Muse and FirstSearch, as well as how to use other information sources. Our familiarity with library and Internet resources can make your work easier and less frustrating. Do not hesitate to ask for our help.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
As you do research, you may find references to materials that the library does not own. Through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) agreements, the library can borrow materials from other libraries. Full bibliographic and source information is needed to make an ILL request. Allow a week to 10 days for receipt of material. ILL request forms can be obtained at the Circulation Desk. You also may e-mail your requests to interlibraryloan@olivetcollege.edu.
Library Cards: An Olivet College Library card is required to check out materials. Cards are issued upon showing an Olivet College ID card. To protect your borrowing record, please call the library immediately if your library card has been lost. There is a $1.00 library card replacement fee.
Books: Books circulate for three weeks and may be renewed once provided no one else has requested them.
Reserve Materials: Instructors may place required reading materials for students on reserve. These materials may be signed out at the Circulation Desk and must be returned to the Circulation Desk.
Reference Books and Periodicals: Reference books and periodicals do not circulate.
Returning Materials: Materials can be returned either to the Circulation Desk or the outside drop slot located on the porch of the library.
Overdue Materials and Lost Items: An item is overdue when it has not been returned within the circulation period. Two overdue notices at one-week intervals will be sent as courtesy reminders. The library asks students to respond to these notices by returning the overdue materials or by informing the library if an error has been made. Failure to respond to these notices will result in a charge of $40 each for the replacement of the materials and a non-refundable $5.00 billing fee. Borrowing privileges are suspended until overdues are returned and/or any charges are paid. Replacement charges must be paid for each lost item.
Study Areas and Meeting Rooms: The library has public seating for 300 people. Study carrels and tables are located throughout the library. The Lecture Room and Insurance Room can be reserved for group meetings and individual study.
Photocopy Services: One photocopier and one fax machine are available in the library. Campus copy cards are not usable with the library copier. Copies cost five cents per page. Change for small bills is available at the Circulation Desk.
Computer Work Stations: Computers are located on the main floor of the library and downstairs in the Cyber Cafe. Computers have a variety of software programs, laser printers, Internet, e-mail and access to Oli-Cat, FirstSearch, Project Muse, and InfoTrac.
Cyber Cafe: The Milford E. Reeder Cyber cafe is located on the lower level of Burrage Library and features computers, coffee, drinks and assorted snack items. Hours of operation during the academic year are:M-TH, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Fri., 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Phone: (269) 749-6639.
