About the Echo

The Olivet College Echo has been a student-run campus newspaper for 120 years. It has taken all shapes and forms, as well as earned numerous state and regional awards. The Echo is published every other week during the academic year, in tabloid form, and on the Web at www.ocecho.com. The Echo’s mission is to “provide news and information in a clear and objective manner, and to offer diverse viewpoints in serving the Olivet College campus and community.”

Each semester an editor is chosen from a pool of campus applicants. This student supervises a staff of dedicated writers, editors, photographers, designers, office managers, advertising representatives, and Webmasters. Students may join the Echo staff from the first day they step on campus, and may work as practicum, work study or volunteers.

The Echo is part of student media, which includes the Garfield Lake Review, an annual literary magazine, and WOCR, the campus radio station. It is supported through the Journalism and Mass Communication program, which is part of the Humanities Department. A campus Media Board is in place to advise and support student media.
