Olivet College’s Student Government Association (SGA) added five new executive board members April 15.
SGA’s new president is junior Blayne White, of Dimondale; vice president is senior Josh Kofflin, of Milan; treasurer is sophomore Christine Wood, of East Lansing; new secretary is sophomore Hailey Willett, of Leslie; and special events liaison is freshman Breanna Williams, of Kent City.
“The SGA is comprised of a group of student leaders who serve as the voice for the overall student population,” said April Yost, SGA advisor and Dole Hall director. “SGA is here to support students and organizations in financial endeavors and organizational leadership.”
Yost believes the members will bring new energy and personality to the campus’ student group. “I am very excited about the new board,” she said. “I feel that each of these students brings a new energy to the board and that each of them has a particular set of skills that will greatly impact the overall success of SGA.”
What goals does the SGA have in mind for the student population of Olivet College in the upcoming school year?
According to Yost, SGA will continue to improve its grant application system, a program through which students can apply for funds to attend conferences, travel for extramural sports and events, attend field trips and more. They will also explore how the campus can save money through endeavors like recycling.
“Incoming vice president, Kofflin, has hired a new sustainability intern to assist with recycling and sustainability initiatives on campus. Williams, the incoming special events liaison, will be working on providing students with off-campus excursion trips and more social programming,” Yost said. “As a whole, SGA will continue to provide support and guidance for students and student organizations.”
