Elliot Hitchcock ’04 speaks at the 2017 Multicultural Awards banquet.

Since its founding in 1844, Olivet College has celebrated diversity and recognizes the accomplishments of students from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Each year, the Multicultural Awards banquet provides an opportunity to award outstanding students in academics who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. On April 7, 79 students were honored for their academic achievement in the fall 2016 semester.

Elliot Hitchcock ’04 served as the keynote speaker at the event. In addition, remarks were given by President Steven M. Corey, Vice President and Dean for Student Life Linda Logan, Ph.D., and Associate Dean for Student Life Jason Meadows. Each student in attendance was give the opportunity to share something they were thankful for and their personal goals.

“I love the words that Olivet College uses to define the ideal student experience: Education for Individual and Social Responsibility,” Hitchcock said. “Individually, you have a responsibility to not deny yourself from your full potential with your education; don’t settle for less. Grow, promote yourself, motive others and serve this world with your God given talents. Socially, serve whatever community you are in, make sure it thrives and prospers, and never let it suffer or neglect it without bringing aid.”
