Michael Sherzer is an Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice. He is a retired Lieutenant from the Battle Creek Michigan Police Department in 2010, after completing just over 25 years of service. At the time of his retirement, Battle Creek PD has a sworn strength of 120 officers.
During his law enforcement career he had the opportunity to see the criminal justice profession from a variety of perspectives. He spent time in the patrol division as a patrol officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant. He also spent five years as a detective assigned to our Special Investigative Unit. Duties included a variety of drug investigations, undercover drug buys, informant management, writing and executing drug search warrants, working with a federal drug task force and state grand jury. His final three years with the Department was spent as the head of the Calhoun County Cold Case homicide Team.
Michael teaches a variety of courses at Olivet, including Police Administration, Criminal Investigation, Terrorism Homeland Security, Police Operations, Criminal Procedure, and a new leadership course. He also serves as the Director of Judicial Affairs for the College.
In November 2013 he was elected to the Battle Creek City Commission.
