During just her first year at Olivet, Lillian Albaugh made an impressive stake in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). She finished her shot put season in 11th place at the 2019 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
“The reason why I joined the track team at Olivet is because I really like the team and especially my coaches that have helped me achieve so much in my throwing,” Lillian said. “I had the privilege to earn all-conference and all-region honors in shot put, and, finally, I was a national qualifier in the top twenty. I finished as the top third freshman DIII shot putter in the nation.”
While Lillian’s track and field accomplishments have highlighted her college journey, she notes two other important aspects of OC as well.
“The reason why I chose Olivet College was because of how small the classes are and how nice the campus is,” she explained. “A great financial aid package made it possible for me to attend.”
In the classroom, Lillian is studying sports and recreation management with a minor in coaching. She hopes to use her skills to become a college throwing coach with a goal of mentoring student-athletes as her coaches have done for her. In addition, Lillian has a personal goal to try out for the Olympics.
“My professors and coaches have been a great inspiration,” Lillian said. “They have guided me through my first year of college and have always been there when I needed them. I would tell them what I wanted to accomplish and they helped push me toward my goals.”
