For some, college is about pursuing your lifelong passions, and for others, it’s about trying new things and stepping outside of your comfort zone. For senior Kassidy Zmikly, both have been possible.
“I am from Sanford, a small town in mid-Michigan. I chose Olivet College because of the same small-town feel, and I had the opportunity to continue playing softball,” Kassidy said. “I have received many scholarships from Olivet that have helped me attend. Olivet’s Board of Trustee Scholarship and the alumni scholarships have been the most important. This spring, I also received the Fred Gruen Chemistry Assistantship.”
Now nearly four years after making her college decision, Kassidy’s love for Olivet College still shines. She is a dedicated member of the softball team and a biology major with a premedical concentration and biochemistry minor.
“I chose my major because I have always been interested in the medical field,” Kassidy said. “I was able to volunteer at Eaton Community Palliative Care and help with the residents, which confirmed my passion for helping others and medicine. To further prepare for my career, I will also be working as a medical scribe.”
Kassidy’s interest in the medical field has also driven her to get involved outside of the classroom.
“I’m a member of the Gruen Chemistry Society and Sigma Zeta, an honor society for math and science students. Both have allowed me to attend national conventions and connect with others in my major and minor,” she said.
Next up, Kassidy plans to attend graduate school. She’s confident in reaching her goals and hopes high school students will take advantage of the same great opportunities she was afforded at Olivet College.
“I’ve developed many close relationships with my professors who have always been available for help outside of class, advising and preparing for grad school,” Kassidy said. “I would encourage other students to attend Olivet College because of the small class sizes and one-on-one time with professors.”
