A chill is in the air and snowflakes have been spotted on campus – that means the holidays are just around the corner. On Friday, Nov. 17, the 33rd annual Lansing Silver Bells in the City celebration will kick off the season with an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as the Olivet College Gospel Choir.
The action will be taking place over the entire downtown Lansing area, but the Lansing City Market, located at 325 City Market Dr., is the place to be from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. when the entire 16-person Gospel Choir will perform with their live band. Santa, Mrs. Claus and live reindeer will even be there!
“Last year, the inaugural Gospel talent group and I took a trip up to Lansing to check out Silver Bells, which was a tradition for me growing up in Lansing,” OC Gospel Choir Director La’Rae Trice explained. “We only wished that we could perform at such an event. To be able to do so this year with a group three times as big and with a full band is a dream come true! We’ll be singing some Christmas classics, such as “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “O Holy Night,” as well as some gospel-a capella versions of songs many already know. We can’t wait!”
The OC Gospel Choir has nearly tripled in size since its inaugural year, and expanded to include both musicians and singers. Members of the Gospel Choir are eligible for a special talent scholarship, helping ensure college is affordable for all students. The choir is always searching for new talent to add to the ensemble, and the next audition will be held on Dec. 15 on OC’s campus.
