Olivet College is proud to announce the addition of Hannah Mellino as the archive administration and communications assistant. Mellino will play a prominent role in the daily functioning of the College’s archives and will serve in a supporting role as a graphic designer to the Marketing Department.

The archive administrative and communications assistant position was made possible through the generous support of Bob ’57 and Sarah (Engle) ’56 Lawrence and other donors, and it was created to assist with the administration of the newly renovated Hosford History Center and Lawrence Archives. Mellino’s tasks include supporting the archives by helping to manage student workers, fulfilling all design and advertising needs, and maintaining various day-to-day operations, under the direction of Nikki Magie, Ph.D., college archivist and assistant professor of social sciences.

A recent graduate of Olivet College, Mellino received her Bachelor of Arts in graphic design and visual arts with a concentration in biological illustration in May. She earned summa cum laude honors and was one of the 2019 top five graduates. Mellino is also a fellow of the President’s Leadership Institute and was a multi-time winner of Visual Arts Department Honors.

Mellino developed her skills and knowledge in history, archives and design by working as a student employee and intern with the College archives and Marketing Department. She was a member of the design team for the Hosford History Center and the Lawrence Archives and the 175th anniversary timeline. She also led the advertising and development of the 2019 Senior Art Exhibition, which displayed work by all six graduating art majors.

Using her design and marketing skills in a professional capacity, Mellino will help the archives become a creative and influential asset to the campus life and its surrounding community. Her dedication to Olivet shows through in her excitement for the position.

“Being from Olivet and having graduated from the College, I now have the honor and opportunity to protect and learn more of its unique and incredible history,” she said.

Mellino and Magie are preparing the Hosford History Center and Lawrence Archives for its public opening in mid-August. The Center will welcome campus and community members for research and learning purposes, as well as to take “a walk through time” in the historic rooms, during weekly open hours. Mellino will proudly greet and assist guests in their visits to the archives.
