About the Program

Dive into the grace and power of the English language as an English major. You’ll read epics about ancient warriors and modern heroes. You’ll get to know people and worlds you never, ever dreamed of meeting. The program will help you prepare for whichever career you choose as an exacting reader, eloquent communicator and compelling writer. The English program at Olivet offers courses in critical approaches to literature, international literature composition and creative writing.

Careers in English

  • Technical Writer

    A technical writer is a professional writer that communicates complex information. They create things like instruction manuals, user manuals, journal articles, quick reference guides and white papers.

  • Book Editor

    Book editors not only read and edit raw manuscripts, they also acquire books for publication and have a lot of influence in the publishing world.

  • Linguist

    Linguists study language and the factors that influence its use. They translate, analyze, research and interpret language for a variety of industries.

  • Grant Writer

    Grant writers often work in the world of non-profits and gather documentation and fulfill the necessary requirements to seek funding on behalf of their agency.
