By studying insurance and risk management, you’ll learn to help individuals and businesses have the security they need to grow and bounce back from unexpected setbacks and determine the correct amount of coverage they need to secure their financial health. Olivet’s curriculum and the co-curricular activities provide you with the knowledge and experience to be able to be a strong part of an insurance organization immediately upon graduation.
Risk managers deal with identifying, measuring and evaluating different types of risks that can affect a business. They look at what could go wrong, they evaluate the impact of what could go wrong on the business, and they come up with strategies to minimize, eliminate or transfer the risk.
An underwriter is a financial expert who takes a look at finances and assesses how much risk a lender will take on if they decide to approve a loan. Underwriters evaluate credit history, assets, the size of the loan requested and how well they anticipate that the borrower can pay back the loan.
Insurance agents sell and negotiate life, health, property or other types of insurance to match the needs of their clients. As an insurance agent, you may work for an insurance company, refer clients to independent brokers or work as an independent broker.
Adjusters inspect property damage or personal injury claims to determine how much the insurance company should pay for the loss. They might inspect a home, a business or an automobile and interview the claimant, inspect the property and look at police reports.
