As Olivet College begins the transition to remote learning, we are sharing important details regarding the retrieval of necessary learning tools from student campus residences. We have also asked that all students complete a short questionnaire to help us assess student remote learning needs as well as to determine which students may require on-campus housing accommodations due to extenuating circumstances.
Student “Home Base” During Remote Learning and Appeal to Stay on Campus (Extenuating Circumstances)
All student have been asked to complete a short questionnaire that was included in an email from President Steven M. Corey this evening. We care about our students and want to know where their “home base” will be for the next few weeks. We also want to know if a student is in need of support from us in any way to accommodate remote learning needs.
Also, if a student requires on-campus housing accommodations due to extenuating circumstances, we need to know as soon as possible. On-campus housing accommodations will only be made under special circumstances (i.e international students, out of state, remote learning support required, other extenuating circumstances).
After Spring Break – Remain or Return Home
Following Spring Break, students are expected to remain at home. Students should not return to campus unless it is absolutely necessary in order to retrieve items for remote/virtual learning activities or if the student has received prior permission to remain on campus.
Permission to Retrieve Items to Prepare for Remote Learning and then Return Home
Students that need to retrieve items for remote learning (books, computers, etc.) from their residence halls/campus apartments/Greek or other theme houses can do so one of the following days.
- Sunday, March 15, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Monday, March 16 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Please understand that to maintain everyone’s health, safety, and wellbeing and mitigate the opportunity for community spread to occur time on campus should be very brief.
- Students should not be moving out; they are to take only what is needed for remote learning purposes through March 29.
- Time on campus should be limited to the residence hall location/room and/or mailroom.
- Students may not be on campus both Sunday and Monday.
If a student is unable to return to campus either Sunday or Monday, please email Jake Schuler with a brief description of your situation. He will respond to you directly.
Mail Pick Up
The mailroom will be open for following days and times:
- Sunday, March 15, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Monday, March 16, 12 – 4 p.m.
If a student is unable to retrieve mail Sunday or Monday, email Townsend Montgomery and he will schedule a time when the mail can be retrieved.
Students are encouraged to continue monitoring their Olivet College email, as more communications will be forthcoming in the days ahead, covering additional issues associated with our transition to remote learning.
