Senior Alicia Bullaro is a sports/recreation management major and a media production and communication minor, as well as a member of the women’s basketball team. She’s excited to be working toward a career that will allow her to continue her passion for sports. Like many other Comets, Alicia’s network on campus is helping her reach her goals.

“I am from St. Clair Shores, a city just about 20 minutes north of Detroit on the east side of the state,” Alicia said. “My hometown is very close-knit, which aided in my decision to come to Olivet so I could have that community feel in college. In addition, the opportunity to play college basketball is what helped me decide to attend OC.”

Alicia has been playing basketball for as long as she can remember, so the chance to continue the sport in college was very important to her. She even serves as a captain on the team. “Some of my favorite experiences at Olivet College have been as a student-athlete in general, but getting to travel with my team to away games and spend time with them outside of the practice or game setting is especially meaningful to me,” Alicia said.

Alicia is excited to bring athletics with her into the classroom as well. “I chose my major of sports/recreation management because I have always been involved in sports my entire life, and I want to remain in the sport industry even after I can no longer play,” Alicia said. “I am passionate about this field of work because sports have basically been my life up until this point, so I don’t know what I would do without being involved with them in some way.”

Alicia’s relationships with her professors and coaches have had a positive impact on her. With their guidance, Alicia feels confident in reaching her goals. “All of my professors that I have had during my time at OC have been incredible and are always going out of their way to help me succeed in any way they can,” Alicia said. “Coaches at OC are also extremely caring and work toward the success of student-athletes as their first priority.”

Alicia hopes that other students take advantage of opportunities to get involved on campus so that they can truly find their fit in the OC community. “One piece of college advice I would share with new students is to participate in everything you can. For me, this is going to every sporting event I possibly can and going to watch games. But more generally, find a club or some sort of group that has to do with what you are interested in and participate,” she said.
