Professor Jackie Looser has served Olivet College since 2014, first as chief financial officer for three years before transitioning to assistant professor of business. Professor Looser’s teaching focuses on accounting, combining her two biggest passions, mentoring young minds and finances.
“I originally came to Olivet College because I was attracted to the mission and compact of the college,” Professor Looser said. “I quickly fell in love with both the college family and the beauty of Michigan. When the opportunity came along to become a leader as part of the business program faculty, it seemed to be a natural fit for my love of numbers and the passion I have for developing the next generation of the world’s business leaders.”
Professor Looser’s previous work as chief financial officer allowed her to develop strong ties to the college as a member of the senior administration. In her role, she was responsible for coordinating annual budgets, leadership of the business staff, key decision making and conducting strategic plans. Before joining the Olivet College community, Professor Looser served in similar roles at colleges and K-12 schools in Illinois, accumulating more than 30 years of experience in business, financial and operations roles.
Professor Looser has always especially enjoyed the leadership aspect in her roles. She finds encouraging others to strive for success and playing a part in helping them reach their goals rewarding and fulfilling. It was that love of growth that helped Professor Looser realize teaching was something she would truly thrive in. Her favorite moment is seeing a struggling student’s eyes light up when he or she finally understands a complex concept. Professor Looser believes her extensive professional experience assists her in connecting with students who have no background in accounting. She uses real-world examples to help students relate to coursework and even throws an accounting song into the classroom now and then to engage students.
Professor Looser earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois. She is a native of Illinois but has a love for traveling and was fortunate to travel the world during her husband’s military career.
