Maria G. Davis, Ph.D.
Provost and Dean of the College; Professor of Biology
Professor Maria Davis earned her bachelor’s from Siena Heights University, master’s in biology from Bowling Green State University and doctorate in entomology from Michigan State University. Her doctorate research was in landscape entomology and focused on the ecology and natural enemies of a home lawn pest called the cinch bug. Her post-doctoral work was in sustainable agriculture with a focus on muck crops – a collaboration with commercial celery growers to find biorational solutions to pest problems and reduce pesticide input on this crop in Michigan.
Davis is the former chair of the Natural and Physical Sciences Department. She has taught all levels of biology – introductory biology, zoology, entomology and comparative vertebrate biology. She now teaches biostatistics, a senior level capstone course.
