Information About Financial Aid

  • Available financial aid: There are a variety of grants (federal, state, and institutional) and scholarships (merit, performance, and institutional) available to students to help defray the cost of college. Information about financial aid services are included in the Olivet College Academic Catalog for the following: traditional undergraduates, adult professional undergraduates, and graduate programs. Please refer all financial aid related questions to the Student Services office, located in Room 205 of the Mott Academic Center at Olivet College.   • Applying for financial aid: In order to be eligible to receive federal or state of Michigan financial aid, students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and comply with all federal, state of Michigan and Olivet College regulations and policies affecting financial aid. Information about financial aid services are included in the Olivet College Academic Catalog for the following: traditional undergraduates, adult professional undergraduates, and graduate programs.   • Rights and responsibilities of financial aid recipients: Information about the rights assured, and the responsibilities required of all students applying for and receiving financial aid while attending the College are included in the Olivet College Academic Catalog for the following: traditional undergraduates, adult professional undergraduates, and graduate programs.   • Disbursement of student aid: Students are notified of aid eligibility in a timely fashion upon receipt of the need analysis document or financial aid application from the student. Requests for any additional materials needed to finalize the financial aid package for distribution is included with the award letter.   • Federal regulations require that students make Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) towards the completion of their degree and maintain good academic standing.   • Olivet College encourages undergraduate students to pursue study in a foreign country. Foreign scholastic experiences are available through a wide variety of excellent programs abroad. While abroad, the student can pursue a course of study tailored to his or her area(s) of interest.

  • Entrance counseling – Title IV loan program: First time borrowers are required to complete Loan Entrance Counseling and the Master Promissory Note (MPN). Complete this on the U.S. Department of Education’s website.   • Exit counseling – Title IV loan program: The Financial Aid Office contacts borrowers via mail before graduation or shortly after a student ceases at least half-time enrollment regarding exit counseling for the Federal Direct Loan program.   • Students may be eligible for assistance from their state of residency. The state educational agency provides information on these programs.   • Private educational loan lenders must provide applicants with certain disclosures about their loans. Because of a change in the law, starting February 14, 2010, lenders will require student applicants to supply a Self-Certification Form as part of the application process.
