Arts & Humanities Faculty

Joel Moore is the director of choral activities at Olivet College where he directs the Olivet College Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorale, and he works closely with the college admissions department guiding prospective families through the college selection process.  Professor Moore received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in music education from Western Michigan University. Prior to joining the faculty at Olivet College, he taught secondary vocal music for 20 years in Michigan schools, 17 of which were for the Three Rivers Community Schools district.  

Choirs under Professor Moore’s direction have performed at the Midwestern Conference for School Vocal and Instrumental Music, the Michigan Music Conference, the American Choral Directors Association State Convention and the State Capitol in Lansing, and they have been selected as one of Michigan’s top ensembles on five occasions to perform at the prestigious Michigan Youth Arts Festival. In both 2010 and 2011, Professor Moore’s choir was awarded first place at The Detroit Spiritual Festival. They have also been awarded first place at music festivals around the nation including in St. Louis, Chicago, Louisville, Cincinnati, Orlando and New York. In addition to conferences and competitions, Professor Moore and his choirs have had the privilege of premiering numerous choral arrangements, many of which have been published.  

Professor Moore also currently serves as the American Choral Directors Association Michigan Repertoire and Resources Chair for College and University Choirs. He is an active adjudicator and clinician for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association, Music in the Parks and Six Flags Music Festivals. He is also the Minister of Music at New Hope Assembly in Three Rivers.  Professor Moore has served the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) as District 11 manager, district choral festival host, adjudicator/clinician, and was elected from the MSVMA membership to conduct the MSVMA 7-8-9 SATB State Honors Choir in 2012 and the MSVMA High School TTBB State Honors Choir in 2017. He presently resides in the city of Three Rivers with his supportive wife, Kathy, and their three children, Joshua, Caleb and Natalie.
