Major

Interested in a writing major? Then you are poised to enter a professional marketplace which recognizes the value of your specialized skill. Possible career tracks include advertising, public relations, lobbying, corporate publication development and journalism.

This major will also prepare you to pursue graduate work. The writing major is designed so you can have ample opportunity to either double major or pursue multiple minors – in order to be prepared for more specialized writing positions, such as science writing or computer/technical writing. Writing majors are required to complete an internship as part of your academic program.

Writing majors MUST complete your disciplinary specialization through:

  • A second major, other than journalism and mass communication; or
  • A minor, other than journalism and mass communication or writing.

The following is an overview of courses associated with our writing major. We encourage you to speak with a faculty representative during your on-campus visit for detailed information about your specific program interests.
