Professor Ben Reed has shaped his career around the ability to work with students, fostering their personal growth and development. His most prominent passion in life is basketball, and he strongly enjoys relating to students and players through that love. As a professional basketball coach, Professor Reed developed exceptional leadership and mentoring skills, always with a goal-oriented outlook on success.
“I have an avid passion for leadership, continuous improvement and process development,” Professor Reed explained. “I strongly enjoy regularly working with others to think outside the box and drive results and am very excited to bring my expertise to Olivet College to foster the growth and success of students.”
Professor Reed served as the head men’s basketball coach since 2015 and the associate head basketball coach since 2012 at Kellogg Community College. As a coach, Professor Reed recruited players, managed the budget, coordinated conditioning programs and overall served as an ambassador of KCC athletics, in addition to leading the team on the court. He transferred his interpersonal skills to a role as a substitute teacher in Battle Creek where he focused on creating a structured learning environment while building relationships with students and fellow teachers. Most recently, Professor Reed served as an adjunct professor at Olivet College where he began focusing on interactive and collaborative learning.
Professor Reed holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation and social work and a master’s degree in sport management from Western Michigan University. In addition, he played seven years of professional basketball in Portugal.
