Natural and Physical Sciences Faculty
Professor Marcus Wasilevich is a graduate of Hope College where he earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry with a minor in mathematics. Prof. Wasilevich earned a doctorate in plant community ecology from Tulane University in New Orleans. He teaches introductory biology, anatomy and physiology, zoology and comparative vertebrate biology.
Throughout his graduate and undergraduate education, Prof. Wasilevich has attended and organized numerous overseas field studies, which allowed for immersion into the ecosystems being studied, including African savannahs, Costa Rican cloud forests and the Galapagos Islands. His dissertation research took place in a bottomland hardwood swamp in coastal Louisiana where he addressed potential forest response to large-scale disturbances such as severe weather events and natural soil subsidence.
Prof. Wasilevich’s prior teaching experience includes one year teaching introductory biology lecture and laboratories at the University of New Orleans, and more than 10 years teaching environmental science at Lansing Community College.
