Jared Stratz is a 2012 graduate from Calvin College where he double majored in environmental studies and geology with an emphasis in mineralogy and museum curation. While attending Calvin, he proved to be a valuable asset both in- and outside the classroom. He was the recipient of numerous academic scholarships, lead mentor for seven higher-level college courses and student ambassador for the Geology, Geography and Environmental Studies Department.
Jared has extensive experience with scientific research projects, and a vast knowledge of field-data collection methodologies. He published a paper and poster titled, “Interactions Between Blowouts and Trails in a Lake Michigan Coastal System,” which is based on a year-long research project that he led during his senior year at Calvin.
After graduating, Jared was hired as lead curator and archivist for the Bruce Dice Mineralogical Museum in Grand Rapids. He was in charge of managing a collection of rare and valuable geologic artifacts acquired from all around the world. In this role, was invited to lecture all across Michigan, and presented at numerous geological and mineralogical conferences.
Jared has invested many years in coaching tennis throughout West Michigan. He was the assistant coach for the Mona Shores High School tennis team for five years and was honored as Co-Coach of the Year alongside Olivet Tennis Coach Andrew DeBruyn. Their state-ranked team won first at city, first at conference and finished with the best record in Mona Shores history.
