Anyone with a passion for helping others can become a Difference Maker, and even earn a scholarship too! Students who are dedicated to, as stated by our founders, “the divine art and science of doing good to others” may apply for the Difference Maker scholarship, up to $2000 a year ($8,000 over four years).
Students awarded the scholarship must complete 25 hours of local community service a semester, coordinate fall and spring Service Day projects, and participate in Difference Maker meetings. This opportunity is for new, admitted, residential students who demonstrate through an essay, video or other creative submission the positive ways in which they have made a difference in their communities, schools or organizations.

Jacob Richards ’18
In his role as community service coordinator, Jacob Richards ’18 oversees the Difference Maker Scholarship Program. His passion for service learning began during his time as a student, and Jacob had the opportunity to help others around Michigan, the United States and even the world including Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisiana, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. In addition, Jacob also leads the Service Day efforts, held annually in the fall and spring, when Olivet College students dedicate an entire day to giving back on campus and in surrounding communities.
Service work has always been an integral part of my life. Through Olivet College, I have been able to help people around the world – changing my life and the lives of those I’ve helped. Making a difference in our community is what Olivet stands for; that is why we extend our community to the world.
