Marching Band

The Olivet College Marching Band welcomes students of any major who play any instrument to audition for the band. Many music majors make up the band, but non-music majors are also prevalent. While performing at athletic events is the most common activity the band participates in, members have also had the opportunity to perform all over the state and even internationally.

Scholarships of varying amounts may be offered to students who audition to play in the Marching Band. After a successful audition, the director of bands will notify students of their marching band scholarship offer. Scholarships are stacked on top of merit and need-based aid. Olivet College has increased its merit aid to award a student’s high school academic success. In addition, all students are considered for need-based aid.

Jeremy Duby serves as the director of bands at Olivet College, where he conducts the College Wind Ensemble and Marching Comets. Since his tenure as the director of bands, the program has undergone significant growth and is receiving national and international recognition. In addition to directing the bands at Olivet College, Duby works closely with the college admissions department, meeting with prospective families to guide them through the college selection process. Duby earned his master’s degree in music in wind conducting at Oakland University and his bachelor’s degree in music education from Wayne State University.

Music is an outlet, a mental break in your studies. Over half of our instrumental musicians are not music majors; they are studying to be insurance agents, biologists and journalists. All were strong students in their high school music programs, and continuing to play is a natural fit for them.
